The Centre for Translation Studies at Leeds University has a track record of fruitful partnerships with industry. These interactions are crucial in informing our research agenda — and all members of the team have experience of applied work on the design, implementation and evaluation of technologies which assist human translators. While we share a commitment to improving collaborative translation in practice, we each bring our own research specialisms. Alina Secara is currently working on the reception of subtitles using eye-tracking technology. Bogdan Babych’s interests include machine translation evaluation and he leads the EU/Marie Curie-funded Industry-Academia Partnerships project, HyghTra. Dragos Ciobanu has expertise in computer-assisted translation workflows and multilingual e-learning. Martin Thomas has a background in multilingual information design and specializes in multimodal localization.
